Adam to Noah

1Adam was the father of Seth and Seth was the father of Enosh. Enosh was the father of Kenan. 2Kenan was the father of Mahalalel and Mahalalel was the father of Jared. Jared was the father of Enoch. 3Enoch was the father of Methuselah. Methuselah was the father of Lamech and Lamech was the father of Noah.

Noah’s descendants

4The sons of Noah were Shem, Ham and Japheth. 5Japheth’s sons were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. 6Gomer’s sons were Ashkenaz, Diphath and Togarmah. 7Javan’s sons were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim and Rodanim.

8Ham’s sons were Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. 9Cush’s sons were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah and Sabteca. Raamah’s sons were Sheba and Dedan. 10Cush was the father of Nimrod. Nimrod grew up to become the first powerful person on the earth. 11

16Canaan’s first child was the father of Sidon who was born first and of Heth. And Canaan was also the ancestor of many nations. They included the people called Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.

17Shem’s descendants included Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech. 18Arpachshad was the father of Shelah and Shelah was the father of Eber. 19Eber had two sons. The name of one son was Peleg. He had that name because God made the world’s nations separate during his life. God sent people away from each other. Peleg’s brother’s name was Joktan. 20

31These were the sons of Isaac and Ishmael:

Ishmael’s first son was Nebaioth. His other sons were Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. Those men were Ishmael’s sons.

32Keturah was another woman who also lived with Abraham. He had sex with her too. And her sons were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan. 33Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah. All those men were descendants of Keturah.

34And Abraham was the father of Isaac. And Isaac’s sons were Esau and Israel.

The descendants of Esau and the rulers of Edom

35Esau’s sons were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam and Korah. 36Eliphaz’s sons were Teman, Omar, Zephi, Gatam, Kenaz, Timna and Amalek. 37Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah.

38Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. 39Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam. And Lotan’s sister was Timna. 40Shobal’s sons were Alian, Manahath, Ebal, Shephi and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah. 41Anah’s son was Dishon. Dishon’s sons were Hamran, Eshban, Ithran and Cheran. 42Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan and Jaakan. Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.

43These kings ruled in Edom before there were kings in Israel: Bela son of Beor was king of Edom. His city was called Dinhabah. 44When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah ruled the people in Edom. He was from Bozrah. 45When Jobab died, Husham ruled them instead. He was from the country called Teman.

46When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad ruled them instead. Hadad won the war against Midian. That happened in the country called Moab. His city was called Avith. 47When Hadad died, Samlah ruled them instead. He was from Masrekah. 48When Samlah died, Shaul ruled them instead. He was from Rehoboth. (Rehoboth is by the river.) 49When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Achbor ruled them instead. 50When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad ruled them instead. His city was called Pai. Hadad’s wife was Mehetabel and she was Matred’s daughter. Matred was the daughter of Me-Zahab. 51
